The American and the open qualifiers were the last chances to qualify for Iron Squid II.
The American scene is often underestimated as it was proved in Satruday’s qualifier, where the competition was really fierce. Golden came in as the big favorite although he had to face his teammate Apocalypse right at the beginning of the day. The Zerg did not disappoint and made to the finals. The good surprise came from an American Zerg. Goswser, had a tough road to the finals, but he defeated players like MajOr and HwangSin to get his spot in the finals. The last series was very tense but Golden managed to win at the end of the seventh game.
On Sunday, it was the very last chance to qualify and everyone was allowed to register. No surprise, Koreans mostly dominated the tournament. Some foreigners still managed to have a good run, Snute and LiveZerg reached the rounds of 8. Sadly for them, they fell short as they were defeated by Polt and J. Symbol as destined to be the only TSL in the main tournament as Polt and Ragnarock both got eliminated in the semi-finals. It was late in the night in Korea and GanZi managed to overcome the fatigue better than J to take the finals 4-1.
It was a good week-end for compLexity as they managed to get a player in both qualifiers. Zergs dominated overall grabbing six of the 8 spots, while Brown and GanZi took the two remaining.
StarTale’s Life was among the favorites two qualify as he is playing amazingly recently and he managed to get through the qualifiers in Iron Squid I. The Zerg did not fail to deliver and cruised his way fairly easily to the finals, securing his spot in the main tournament. His final was disturbed by a pretty unusual issue. Due to his young age his Battlenet account got locked and he had to borrow one to his teammate. His opponent remained imperturbable. Brown, a Protoss trained by SlayerS, was not among the most awaited players in the qualifier. But he made his way to the final brilliantly, defeating YongHwa in the semi-finals. S Brown is trained to snipe Zergs in team league, he managed to pull off the upset and grab the $ 500 by beating Life.
On Sunday the European qualifiers was very crowded, especially by a lot of French players wanting to enter tournament. After a rough start due to a technical issue with the bracket, the Zergs swarmed the tournament. With seven players in the round of 8, Zergs truly dominated the qualifier. In the game of ZvZ, Delphi took the best of it defeating the Swede MiniRaiser in the final series.
The last to qualifiers will live next week-end, the American one will be starting at 6p.m CET on Saturday and the open qualifie will start at 2p.m CET on Sunday.
